The Battle of Bosworth winery is another of the wonderful, small, family-owned wineries, situated in the heart of the McLaren Vale wine region. They produce organically grown and certified, single vineyard wines sourced solely from their own vines.
The first thing you’ll notice as you turn off the main road is the stunning tree-lined driveway. The cellar door being tucked away from the road at the end. Just so lovely and quiet.
Battle of Bosworth have been growing grapes in the region on and off since the late 1840s, the entire vineyard commenced going organic in 1995.
Their core range includes Sauvignon Blanc, an oaked Chardonnay, a Semillon, a Shiraz, and a Cabernet Sauvignon as well as a few limited releases. Wine maker Joch Bosworth is also trying his hand at some alternative varieties, including Touriga Nacional and Graciano (two lovely Southern European varieties).
The beautiful grounds and old buildings are a wonderful backdrop to enjoy some of the range. An easy way to pass an afternoon. Battle of Bosworth have also created the Spring Seed Wine Co range of wines. So there’re lots of delicious options to choose from!
Rumour has it, that Battle of Bosworth has also created their own Pale Ale! In two visits we’re yet to be able to try this elusive malty delight but I’m thinking a third visit is definitely imminent (purely in the name of research of course) 😊
We had a lovely afternoon here, spending time trying the wines and chatting with the wonderful staff. Was hard to pick a favourite as we enjoyed most of the wines we tried. Standouts for me were the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon and the Sauvignon Blanc.
This is a lovely little family owned winery set in beautiful surrounds. Well worth a visit!
